      Columbus Museum of Art 09/04/2011

      Just thought I'd pass this along . . . .

The Columbus Museum of Art received a grant that has allowed them to offer free admission every day of the week for the rest of this month. Parking is free in the museum lot. If it is full, there are meters nearby.

I'd like to encourage those of you with children you might think are too young for the museum to stop by & check it out. I took my kids (6&9) for the time last winter & there was plenty to interest them. "No touching." Yes, I repeated that lots but there are many opportunities to touch--including a children's room on the main floor where children can create a face on a giant magnetic head, customize a fort, work with clay, make mobiles and more. Other rooms had a battleship game on a table free for the playing, magnetic shapes for creating your own landscape, & a variety of other art stations.

The museum is free on Sunday year round. I'd always avoided that figuring there'd be crowds & my kids would crash into the elderly. So this free admission for the rest of the month, esp. as schooled children return, is a great chance to check it out.

      Maple Syrup Day 02/22/2011

      Picture
We are up and running ready for another fun maple-syrup season.  We have 500-600 tapped trees here and will be having a homeschool day when the sap begins to run.  We will probably give a day or two notice and all are welcome to come to our sugar shack to see how the syrup is made.

My husband has many area schools come each year to watch and "taste" the excitement.  The children will be able to walk through the woods (with good mud boots) and trudge down to the cabin to get a tour.  Parents, grandparents and anyone else who is interested are welcome.

Directions, dates and times will be posted later.  Hope all of you can come.  Bring a camera along to capture a memorable time with your kids!!!
